“Where do you live?” “What is your family like?”
“Where did you ever get the idea of writing a cookbook?”
“Where did all your recipes come from?” “How long
did it take you to complete the cookbook?”
- These are just a few of the many questions that we get asked when
we talk about our cookbook.
First, let us give you some information about our family. We are
the second and third born daughters in a family of eight children.
Danielle is 23 and married and Lindsay is 21. We grew up in the Minneapolis
area and spent two years of our childhood in the Philippines where
are parents were working as missionaries. We were home educated all
our schooling years and each of our siblings and us plays a stringed
instrument. Currently our family lives in South Korea, assisting young
families who are just beginning home education.
About six years ago, some friends introduced us to this whole concept
of health eating. Slowly but surely we started to change our eating
habits to include more raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts
and seeds. The two of us had never cooked vegetarian food before,
so we started creating our own recipes. We also took recipes that
we liked and recreated them to fit in with our new diet. We know many
people choose a vegetarian lifestyle “to save the animals”
or use vegetarianism almost as their religion. This was not the case
with us, rather, we chose to limit meat and dairy because we saw such
wonderful benefits from this way of eating: Our mom lost 20 pounds
without even dieting and her arthritis totally cleared up, we stopped
getting colds all the time, our acne cleared up, and all of us had
a lot more energy.
Soon
after we made the diet change our family went on what we called our
“Great Adventure.” For a year and a half our whole family
traveled in a motor home throughout the US, visiting friends and the
famous sights in each state. A lot of the friends we visited and the
people we met we would share with them our new way of eating and give
them our favorite recipes. Soon we had numerous people asking us for
recipes. The two of us were always e-mailing these recipes to friends.
Our mom kept telling us, “You girls are not using your time
efficiently! You have to write a cookbook.” Of course, both
of us said, “No way!” We completely rejected this idea,
envisioning years of labor and little interest by the time the book
would be completed. But, gradually, we started warming up to the idea
of a cookbook and soon started testing recipes and becoming even more
creative.
At the end of our “Great Adventure” our family moved
to the Chicago area were our father did work for our Christian ministry.
Our recipe book was first published there in 2000. A year and a half
later we came out with the Two Sisters Video Series to further assist
the many mothers who were incorporating the Two Sisters Cookbook into
their family’s diet. Since that time we have reprinted the cookbook
twice having sold over 7,000 cookbooks. We continue to do a lot of
health counseling; sincerely desiring to help people in the area of
health. The
continuing driving force behind this whole project has always been
our hope that we can truly help people make a healthy change in their
diet. It has been our prayer that this book would change peoples lives
as they discover that there IS a way to feel 100% ALL of the time!
One of the main reasons why we were able to write the cookbook is
because we were educated at home. Our parents always encouraged us
to focus our attention on becoming more skilled in those areas where
our interests lie. Because we were home educated, we were able to
devote much of our time to projects such as the cookbook and our music
studies. Our family has had the privilege of being involved in worldwide
ministries and has traveled throughout all Asia sharing our music
with others. This has only been possible because we were always together
working as a family every single day.
Through writing this book we became so much closer. We often meet
people who say, “Oh, you're one of the Two Sisters!” And
yes, we are ALWAYS linked together now, but we really do enjoy it!
We are truly best friends, and we are so excited about working together
to see our business and ministry expand and grow.
